Young Justice

Post by Cynic »

I just saw that there's a young justice cartoon series going on right now. That's awesome. the promotional posters also seem to show the characters as being a little sleeker and more adult-like. is the show any good?

Well, the show has a lot of the growing pain angst of the OGs telling the "sidekicks" that this mission is too dangerous, and the teens doing the rebelling thing and demanding that they be considered real superheroes.

But they're badass, and I'm having fun watching it so far. Since the overarching storyline right now is about how the younger generation comes into its own, I'm willing to roll with the growing pains, but if a lot of the drama goes on without progress and/or resolution, I'll probably want to kick it in the teeth.

Please note: I'm not that familiar with the DC universe, so I have absolutely no idea if there's any veracity to the characters' stories whatsoever.

There have been three episodes so far, but the first and second were half of the same story.

So I finally got the chance to watch some of this. It takes some getting used to because I'm enough of a DCAU geek to get really annoyed when Batman isn't being played by Kevin Conroy and Superman isn't being played by Tim Daly. Also, the first couple episodes grind in the whole new team of fuckups thing too hard. But the series grows up fast.

I really like the way they portray Black Manta as a fucking badass. I totally respect that guy as a villain. He ca be on my league of evil whenever he wants.

Also: I approve of Kid Flash/Ravager shipping, and Artemis seems like a decent enough replacement for Ravager. I do not understand why they didn't use Ravager instead though. Her limited precognition thing is a decent enough excuse for her to be generically good in armed combat like Robin or Speedy without stepping so thoroughly on the others' toes. Artemis is possibly the most obscure possible character they could have picked - and the comic version is a villain anyway.

The animation style looks the same as Batman:TAS, which I've always liked. So I can totally see why you'd want him voiced by Kevin Conroy. I've never really gotten into any of the other DC animated series, though.

Not Justice League Unlimited? That show was the bee's knees.

Not having Kevin Conroy as Batman irked me as well, but I like the series and I think it has a lot of potential. If you enjoyed Justice League or Justice League Unlimited you should probably check out a few episodes.
